FAQ FSFAQ10: Problems getting video from computer to VCR

QUESTION:
I am not able to get video from my computer to the VCR/TV. Nothing is recorded on the videotape. What do I do now?
ANSWER:
Check the diagram below to make sure the cables are connected correctly. The diagram shows the S-Video cables connecting to the VCR and to the analog/digital converter. If you are using composite cables (usually yellow, red, and white), compare your wiring to this composite wiring diagram. The red and white cables are audio cables, and are not necessary.
To check your connections, try the following.
- Put a recorded tape in the VCR and press Play. If you see the tape on the TV playing, stop the tape. The connection between the TV and VCR is okay.
- Start FireScout. Click on a game name in the Game Files list and press Edit. This will start the game playing on the computer monitor. If you do not see the video playing on the TV, then leave it playing on the computer.
- Verify that the analog/digital converter is on and in Digital In. mode Most converters have a button that allows you to select the input, Analog In or Digital In.
- Verify that the VCR is on and in VCR mode. There should be a button on the VCR (or the remote) labeled TV/VCR. Press the button until you see the word "VCR" light up on the display of the VCR.
- Verify that the Input Select of the VCR is set to the correct input of either Line In or S-Video In. This may appear on the VCR as L1, Line, A1, or Aux. If a channel number is being displayed, then the VCR is getting input from the Coax In port. Consult the user's manual of the VCR for instructions on setting the correct input port.
- If it still isn't working, you may have a bad cable. Try switching cables.
